Amanda Buchhalter

Amanda Buchhalter is from Eastern Long Island, New York. She graduated from Long Island University, C.W. Post campus in nutrition. She became interested in nutrition because of her love for food. Originally she was going to school for restaurant management hoping to eventually go to culinary school. After learning so much about food she realized that knowing what you are eating and the nutritional value is very important. So she switched over to nutrition to learn about the other side of food. Throughout her studies she became very interested in how farming, agriculture and the enviornment all play a crucial role in nutrition. In the future she hopes to work with local farmers and programs to promote sustainable food systems. Amanda has worked with City Harvest and Harrisburg diabetic youth camp in Pennsylvania. Throughout her college career she has worked as a server at a local steakhouse. During her free time she likes to read, hike, spend time with her family, friends and dog, and try different types of foods, wine and beer.

 
Aimee Cleveland
Aimee Cleveland enters the program with a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics from West Chester University in PA. She grew up in Gaithersburg, MD into a family of pharmacists and engineers. Her love for chemistry and biology led her to discover a passion for nutrition and the effect food can have on the body. Always intersted in the latest health news, Aimee's hobby of fitness and nutrition turned into her career path. In college, Aimee was an active member in the Student Dietetic Association, worked as an inventory assistant in the cafeteria, and led the food production for a large club's weekly gathering. She enjoys working with pregnant women and young children. Aimee enjoys all outdoor activities, being involved in her church, and spending time with family and friends. .
 
Lauren (Granger) Morgan

Lauren Morgan is a graduate of The University of Tennessee where she received a Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology, Nutrition. She was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she grew up as a Tennessee Volunteer fan. Lauren has always been interested in health care and knew she wanted to work in a medical setting. Growing up with parents who are pharmacists, Lauren learned the importance of nutrition in many disease states and became fascinated with this aspect of health care. Her nutrition experiences includes work as a Nutrition Associate at a Knoxville hospital, a Maternal and Child Health Research Assistant, and Secretary of the University's Undergraduate Nutrition Student Association. Throughout college Lauren spent time volunteering at East Tennesse Children's Hospital on the oncology floor where she was able to spend time with children with cancer. She hopes to work as an oncology dietitian after completing her dietetic internship program. Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband Tommy and their puppy, being outdoors, Tennessee football and basketball, watching baseball (especially the St. Louis Cardinals), and being around family and friends.

 
Aurielle James

Aurielle James graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition in May 2007. A native of Blacksburg, Virginia, Aurielle has been living in Gaitherburg, MD for the past two years working for the University of Maryland as a Nutrition Assistant in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Witnessing her family members, as well as herself, struggle with weight issues, Aurielle developed an interest in behavioral nutrition and weight management. She would like to pursue a career in dietetics as a weight management counselor helping others to achieve a healthy relationship with food. Aurielle would also like to travel abroad to help underprivileged countries solve their nutritional issues. In her spare time, Aurielle enjoying working out and going for long walks with her husband, spending quality time with family and friends, baking, and taking annual "Mother-Daughter" trips with her mom.

 
Angela Leone

Angela graduated from Indiana University with a Master of Science in Nutrition Science in May 2008. After graduation Angela joined the AmeriCorps and did a year of service at the Capital Area Food Bank in the Nutrition Education Department. Her main responsibility was to serve as a coordinator for Operation Frontline, a national program that helps families with limited resources, make healthy meals at home. Angela is excited to broaden her experiences in the dietetics field through her internship. Prior to pursuing her love of food, cooking, and nutrition as a career, Angela coached the novice women's rowing team at Indiana University. When not testing new recipes in the kitchen, Angela enjoys running and exploring all that D.C. has to offer.

 
Jamie Morgan
Jamie Morgan graduate in May 2009 from West Chester University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. Raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, she has always enjoyed being active and outdoors. Jamie has been involved in a variety of sports since a young age and found her true passion in volleyball. Playing a collegiate sport and struggling with an unexpected weight gain really showed her the importance of nutrition when it comes to health and athletic performance. She has also watched several family members struggle with obesity, some of which have successfully lost a large amount of weight; this sparked her interest even more in the field of dietetics. She has had the privilege of working in fitness centers, weight loss facilities, and food service operations, all of which have showed her different and interesting aspects of the field of nutrition. As a future RD Jamie hopes to work in the field of sports nutrition, or in pediatric nutrition. Outside of nutrition Jamie enjoys running, biking, hiking, reading and spending time with family and friends.
 
Reut Mushkat

Reut Mushkat joins the program with a Bachelors of Science in Dietetics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her interest in nutrition started in high school, as she began to see the importance of nutritious foods combined with exercise. Reut has worked in various settings, including volunteering at the University of Maryland's Health Center and researching at the NIH. Upon graduation she began working as a Nutrition Counselor at WIC. At WIC, she analyzed anthropometric, hemoglobin, and nutrition information to counsel high risk patients to help select food packages based on dietary and personal needs. As a dietitian Reut would like to utilize research, information resources, and her nutrition background to better counsel diverse communities.

 
Emily Schmitt
Emily Schmitt, a Montgomery County native, graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a degree in Dietetics in May of 2009. Emily's desire to become a Registered Dietitian was sparked by a passion for helping others achieve their health and fitness goals. As an undergraduate student, Emily had the opportunity to reach out to the campus community as an intern for the campus dietitian while teaching group fitness classes on campus. While she hopes to explore limitless possibilities that the field of dietetics has to offer, Emily is particularly interested in the areas of weight management, diabetes, and cardiovascular health. This summer, Emily is continuing to gain further insight into foodservice management as a diet clerk at a local hospital. In her spare time, Emily enjoys exercising outdoors, trying out new healthy recipes, attending live theatre and sporting events, and spending time with family and friends
 
Amber Strouse
Amber is a December 2007 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and minored in Kinesiology. While attending Penn State, she was a heptathlete on the Women's Track and Field team, where she quickly developed a love for nutrition after experiencing firsthand the impact that diet has on athletic performance. An interest in learning how to gain a nutritional edge over competitors led Amber to an internship with Dr. Kristine Clark, Sports Nutrition Director at Penn State. She was given hands-on experience during this time while counseling collegiate athletes in creating meal plans appropriate for each individual and their respective sport. Additionally, during her studies at Penn State, Amber had a unique opportunity to experience the Mediterranean diet in Rome, Italy through a six-week study abroad program. Here, she acquired a love for international traveling and an understanding of the Italian culture while tasting authentic cuisine. Since graduating, Amber has been working in a Maryland clinic for the Women, Infants and Children program as a nutritionist. Amber enjoys the outdoors, singing, cooking, Penn State football, the beach, traveling, and spending quality time with family and close friends.
 
Christina Vinton
Christina Vinton comes to the program with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from University of Maryland College Park. She has worked for the past year as a clinical dietetic tech at St. Agnes Hospital, where she gained the opportunity to work along side Registered Dietitians. While at St. Agnes she experienced enteral and parenteral nutrition, giving patient educations, and much more. Christina became interested in nutrition when diagnosed with Celiac disease her sophomore year in school and has walked every year to help raise awareness. Her goal is to one day work with celiac patients in helping make diet lifestyle changes and the change to a gluten-free diet. Other interests include soccer, outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and researching new gluten-free products or information.
